Just be careful if the witness saw you do it.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0

I just hoped to avoid whats going to be adversarial, long and drawn out, since when the push (no pun intended) comes I'm going to deny liability, since hand on heart I have no recollection of doing it.
All the more reason why you need to pass everything on to your insurer to deal with.0 -
ok - thanks guys!
Just worried about saying no if I did actually do it! It sounds stupid - but its so so minor and I really have no idea at all!
I just assumed that if someone had written a note then I must have done it - but hell, it might just be a total scam.
Thanks for all the help.0 -
I am sorry but I dont buy this
, you either did or you didnt. If you dont know that you might have hit something you are not competent to drive, it could have been anyone not just a car you hit., I think I may have slighty pushed in a panel with my bumper.
It sounds like you were trying to get away with it.
The other individual may not have known it was you until a witness told her, some time later, that's irrelevant as she has plenty of time to make a claim.
You on the other hand had the opportunity to first and foremost assess the situation when it actually happened - if you were driving with due care and attention you should have noticed. If you pushed a panel in you should have felt it! Then you would have noticed it was a car you hit and nobody else. Then again you would have had the politeness and decency to acknowledge this little mishap with the owner of the other vehicle.
It's not up to you to decide whether the damage was little or large enough to report.
I may sound harsh but someone did the same thing on my bike. Early in the morning I got up and found it on the floor. Over £500 damage to the fairing and wing mirror... I didn't know who had done it until my other neighbor said that they saw another neighbor roll their car (it was on a slight hill) and hit my bike causing it to fall.
Sorry if it sounds harsh but thats my opinion

Thats rich coming from youChippy_Minton wrote: »Since you keep repeating yourself.
Report the matter to your insurance and let them deal with it. If you don't know when you caused the damage how do you know what you did immediately after?
You don't know what this witness has said nor do we so we can't really advise on that.
That's sensible advice so do it.
How come you keep messing with your posts?

Is it as worth falling out with nextdoor for? I had a accident a couple of months ago where I pulled out infront of someone (1st in ten years!), He avoided me but hit a kerb. So what did I do? I said to the guy i'm very sorry let me know how much it will be and I will send you a cheque which he did then matter was then solved as it should be . Why can't people just own up instead of trying to slime their way out?

Hi,
This is an ace site - and I hope someone can help me with some quality advice
About a month ago I found a note on my car asking me to call a number regarding a car I had damaged!
It transpires that it was my nextdoor neighbour - and the alleged damage is a VERY minor parking 'ding' (panel slightly pushed in) and twoVERY small minor shallow scrathes less than (1mm x 1cm) on her car. The car is a 4 year old VW.
I knew nothing about it - and the damage is so minor its no suprise I didn't notice, I think I may have slighty pushed in a panel with my bumper.
Allegedly a passerby by left a note saying that it was me - I live in a very busy area, and there is lots of moving in and out of spaces to give way to cars etc.
Without FORMALLY admitting liabiliy I told her I'd pay to get it sorted but heard nothing for a month.
Now I have been presented with a quote of £1400 pounds from the VW dealers who are being utterly outlandish sensing some easy Insurance money!
She is really naive and seems utterly clueless - and reported me to the police for leaving the scene of an accident when I live next door!
She is obsessed with not reducing the value of her vehicle and getting work done 'to the highest standard'.
What should be a simple £60-£70 routine repair at any dent specilst is turning into a major issue - I have taken some pics and got them independently looked at just to confirm how minot it is.
If she insists on pushing it I have to put it to my Insurance company and will lose my 3 years no claims, have to pay £400 in excess and face an insurance increase!
I want to be civil but am at my wits end dealing with this!
If I had really dmaged her car then there would be no issue - but I going to lose out hugely for something tiny that I may not have even done!
Any advice would be great.
Thanks tons.
Errr this is why folks are on your case. Dinn't you actually mean to say "I have pushed in a panel with my bumper but thought I could get away with it".
The advice bit, grow balls, report it straight to the insurance and let them sort it. It is irelavant to you if it costs £14 or £1400. If there is any chance of a witness and you did it do not even consider denying it.
If you didn't do it you would have already confronted her over it I would have thought, but if you really didn't, then deny it.
Responsibility has to be taken for mistakes made
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0
