phillips collection services and scottish power

i have received a letter today from phillips collection services regarding £150 i apparently owe to scottish power for electricity on my old flat (that i left in january)

i had a prepayment meter at the flat, so i dont see how i can owe them money- i first tried calling phillips, and all they said was i better pay up or they will be sending baliffs out- i said i had no intention of paying money i definately don't owe and put the phone down.

i then phoned scottish power, and they say that there is no record of me having a prepayment meter at the flat- funny cos i had both gas and electric with them on prepayment.

i dont have any paperwork from my flat to prove that the meters were prepay, as i fled my old property to go into a refuge, so i dont really know what to do

can anyone offer any advice? i am adamant that i am not paying this supposed bill!!

Were you paying off a previous debt on the pre-payment meter though?-if so then you may still owe whatever remained due.

Are you able to contact your old landlord, or is that too risky with revealing your current location? If so ask for a letter confirming you were on prepay a,d ideally what the meter numbers are. I would suggest you write to Scottish Power, copying the letter to the debt collector, explaining the same. Never speak to debt collectors on the telephone, they will try to frighten you into paying.

    Hi katiesmummy

Sorry to hear about your situation.

There are a number of options that are available to you in order to resolve this matter. The first suggestion I have is to see if you have any Prepayment receipts when you were topping up your gas and electricity meters. If we did not have a Prepayment meter on your account these receipts will help identify where the payments are located.

If you would like me to review your account and check the meter details for you, you can send an email to our online account address (you will find the details within our additional information section on our profile).

If we currently hold credit meters against your previous address, and prepayment meters have been installed without being updated, we will arrange a site visit to confirm the correct meter details and update the accounts accordingly.

    Kind Regards
