    agreed - there should be a combined analysis of brand at the 3 category price points to give a better indication of reliability rates. As a market researcher, this is a natural line of data interrogation I'd perform on a data set such as this.

    The press release I've read talks up how brand is more significant than price in gauging reliability, but without this additional analysis, it's a limited generalisation. I'd also like to see the base sizes for each brand and category so we can test if there is actual statistical significance in the figures.

    Such statistics are all very well but another equally important factor is how good and how friendly the Customer Support is when things do go wrong.

    Would you rather buy a laptop that has a good record for reliability but a reputation for hostile and unreachable Customer Support on the far side of the world, or a laptop that has a slightly less distinguished record for reliability but whose manufacturer is renowned for its Customer Support and has an Authorised Service Centre or one of its own stores fairly locally?

    That's a major reason why people are buying Apple kit in ever increasing numbers – irrespective of price.

    I pretty sure if it said macbooks were the best the usual mac fanatics wouldn't be dismissing it so.

    Leopard some of the faulty ones could be down to exploding batteries and magnetic power adaptor plugs setting fire to themselves. Have apple admitted liability yet?
