Door handle help

My work colleague has just moved into a bungalow and has noticed that the handles on the interior doors need replacing. All handles are round knob type. And it would seem that rather than just drilling a hole through the door big enough for the spindle, the previous occupants have drilled a hole big enough for the handle to fit through! so the round hole in the door is 2.5 inches in diameter. On looking around at new door handles she is having problems finding anything with a back plate that will cover this hole. Does anyone have any suggestions on where she can find door handles to suit or what she should do in the way of covering the hole? The doors are sapele (SP?) type ones.

all my handles are the round type and the doors have holes approx 2.5 inches.
the brass backplates came with the handles.

Thanks Ormus, work colleague dosen't want round handles again though! She can't grip round ones very well so was hoping she might be able to get the lever handle style ones with a back plate wide enough to cover them, as she's got 8 internal doors to do she thought replacing door handles would be cheaper than getting new doors.

oh i see the problem now.
you ll be very lucky to find normal lever handles with backplates that big.
probably got two choices. either get some custom made or change the doors.

some finger plates are wide/big. maybe modify those?
