I am thrilled that the banks have won - it means fee free banking for those in credit will continue.

Yes I have always been in credit with the bank and have never had any debts. I have never had a bank charge in my life.

Great result, thank you Supreme Court.

you dont get free banking tho we all pay money to have an account
Replies to posts are always welcome, If I have made a mistake in the post, I am human, tell me nicely and it will be corrected. If your reply cannot be nice, has an underlying issue, or you believe that you are God, please post in another forum. Thank you

The glaring self interest in those posts reminds me of the lines of the old japanese saying

"The nail that sticks up will be hammered down!"

I am sure that some of you are enjoying talking down to people about how to look after there money and thinking you know it all. But you have no idea what others are going though. You have no idea why people got into this situation or why they cant get out. Read though the boards. Talk of people losing a loved one, or losing a job, or becoming disabled. Who are you to judge.

People come here to get them selfs out of debt. Cant you see that the fact people are here trying so hard to get out of debt means they are not dumb and foolish. That they are trying to fix the situation.

Many people today have lost the only chance they had of getting them self out of debt and may never do so now. Have they not suffered enough with out you telling them its there fault. Or are you just enjoying it?

    Couldn't have said it better.

From one extreme to the other.

How nasty some people are....I am amazed.
I am sure that no one sets out to get themselves in a mess....me included.I do realize how silly I have been and don't need to be told.
However I am sure that there are many people worse off than me and all I can say is

'There but for the grace of God go I.'

    Compassion costs nothing.

  • I have had fees and am getting odd ones now since my hubby lost his job. We can't have an overdraft but do sometimes miss a dd hence the fees. We try not to, we don't go for nights out, we don't drink and smoke. We struggle at times. I'm not against paying the fees and when we signed to our account it was £10 for a fee, the banks have put that up to £35 so although I signed for the original, I have certainly not signed for it to go up to that amount.
I have got most of my household bills off dd, but there are others that I cannot pay any other way, otherwise I would. I would rather go back to the old way of cash in a wage packet and bills paid at the post office or relevant shop's as there used to be.(electric, gas etc)

Just remember while you are sitting there smuggly enjoying the sight of others being hammered back down into what you believe their rightful place is, one day it might be your turn to be the nail.

I think you've misunderstood. Most of us who are prudent and carefully budget to ensure we don't get hit with bank charges are happy that we will not have to suffer in the form of across-the-board charges for current accounts. It's not a case of enjoying others bad situations, but rather being pleased that our prudence has benefitted us.

In these days when we hear so often of people living off benefits etc. it's good news in my eyes for hard work and prudence to be rewarded.

It is not currently free banking for current accounts. Account holders generally lose out in interest and the banks make a huge profit from that and using deposits in current accounts. Remember that bank account maintenance is very largely automated.

Fees are already in existance for some current accounts.

Can you substantiate your argument as to why fee free banking will continue please?
Please ignore those people who post on this forum who deliberately try to misinform you. Don't be bullied by them, don't be blamed by them. You know who I mean.
You come here for advice, help and support- thats what I and like minded others will try to do.

As someone who never has been overdrawn and so never been charged unfairly I cant understand those siding with the banks. Ive also never been mugged or been a victim of extortion but if I knew someone that had suffered either of these I would be a little more understanding then those smugly posting on here.

I'm not siding with the banks at all. I'm siding with me.

yes but thtas not availale to all
The reason overdrafts are not available to "all" is because not "all" people deserve them due their financial track record.
Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.

it doesn't link properly. i assume you mean the one by Euronorris.

Actually a fair point. The question i would ask it what 'incentive; would there be for people to manage there accounts properly. If they can;t do this with a £35 fee as a deterant......what does it take?

Perhaps there shouldn't be a deterrant. Perhaps the banks and the government should work together to put financial planning lessons in schools.

Also, not everyone does it on purpose which so many people on here seem to think they do.

  • You don't get it repaired and use public transport. you can get anywhere on public transport - it may require many changes and walking, but it can be done. Life isn't easy. and it would be temporary.

surely he could borrow a bike from someone???

its funny how these people always live in the most inaccessable areas and have zero friends that can help out!!

For someone so righteous I bet you don't do what you preach you sanctimonious hypocrite!
