even though I am well aware there is one...what is it precisely?
I advertised my laptop on my local gumtree, and within 24 hours I had three replies, wanting my paypal addy to pay for it then and there, with extra postage lumped on so I can post it abroad....erm....no.....
There is no way in hell I would post the laptop abroad even for a genuine buyer, thats just asking for trouble (broken in postage blah blah) I advertised it on my local gumtree so it could be collected or we could deliver local and not paid for by paypal either. However I didnt state that in the advert (now rectified).
Hubs dearest, trusts the world and his friends and keeps saying its not a scam, but I know it is, I just cant explain it to him :rotfl:three people whom live abroad, just so happen to go on inverness gumtree and happen to want me to send to someone else whom live abroad also....tell me, what exactly would they have done had I been daft enough to take them up on the offer. A search of their google email address's reveals random posts on varioous odd looking auction sites etc.

They will send you a fake email to your paypal address saying you have received funds. If you directly check your paypal account the money won't be there. (They hope people won't check there accounts and believe the email)
If you did post it to them no money and no laptop0 -
Ask them to pay you by Western Union, collect the money and then (decide whether to) send it. It'll be the last you'll hear from them in all probability.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

Gumtree attracts SO many scammers. Ignore anyone wanting you to send it abroad, as you'll end up with no laptop and no money.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
oh dont worry, hubs cant even really use a computer, he isnt very technical, if we buy/sell its always me doing it thank god! I thought the fake email would be the case, but do people really not actually check their paypal before sending items :O thats what annoys me more than anything, the fact that whilst I may not be drawn in, other folk out there could be. shame. Anyways, thanks for the info, I will pass it on to him

Certian items attract scammers no matter where they are advertised, mobile phones and laptops being the favorites..."Love you Dave Brooker! x"
