Another vote in the "it's never happened to me" corner. Been with Barclays since I was a kid, and 10 years with a proper current account.. not once been declined (even when hideously overdrawn!)

Maybe the fact that my account is very rarely overdrawn is making them suspicious then ;)

It has happened to me too which is why we are with lloyds now. It put us in a mess as they told me that which transcations had been declined when trying to pay online and to give it five minutes for them to remove the block and then put it through again and when i did it resulted in my account going to its limit on my account because all my catalogues had been paid twice the payment i wanted to pay. I have a few catalogues so we were in a mess. I under a DMP now anyway and they have been told they will get one payment once a month off the overdraft. I am now with Lloyds as we have transferred the wages into a old account we had for years that was never used. However Barclays are dirty rats as once they got the Dmp letter they alerted all my debit accounts that they could not take another payment from them which resulted in company;s threatening to terminate insurances etc because they did not hold up to date bank details. I phoned them straightaway and told them the new details and said i was going to ring them within the next few days anyway but it proves barclays are sneaky rats and i will never ever give them my business again.

I don't bank with Barclays but with Lloyds. and the same happens with them. I have a routine. Last working day of month is payday and I log onto my Next Directory account to pay bill. Card always declines, Card always gets blocked. Phone lloyds who unblock card and tell me to try again on next site. I do and it works. Next month the exact same thing happens.

Unfortunatly unlike everyone else Next do not have a DD scheme so I either pay online or opt to receive a paper statement that means paying over counter which is not convenient for me. Paying on line is, well should be if Lloyds would let me.

It is driving me up the wall.

I have sent a letter regarding the issue to Barclays two weeks ago now, and no calls or replies so far. Either their policy is to wait for angry clients to cool down before talking to them, or they couldn't care less.

The Next website (from 2 seconds on Google) gives details of a Direct Debit form and bank account details. So you could pay either by DD or manually through Lloyds TSB online banking, saving you the trouble with the card every month.

  • Both my boys have accounts with Barclays and they have both had this issue of the cards being blocked recently and both with online purchases. My youngest tried to top up his phone and it was rejected at the verified from visa stage.

I have had problems with my a and l credit card being blocked when I use a certain music backing track site. One time I phoned them up and told them I am going to use this site again, please put a note on my account that I use them often. They still blocked my card. I do appreciate they are looking out for fraud but if they had taken notice of my phonecall they wouldn't have needed to block it.

This has just happened to me. I had tried to make an online payment with Comet. It went to Visa Varified and admittadly i put in the wrong password. I then received two emails saying thta it had been declined and i could call Comet over the phone to re-place my order. I did so, and the guy said I had to call the bank and tell them to allow the next payment of 'X' amount to go out. They of course didn't and I had 4 failed attempts to purchse from Comet, which then the fraud people came onto me and I had to ask them to re-activate my account/card! I then missed out on the great deal I was hoping to buy!
  • My card was blocked by Nationwide because they deemed my spending over £1,000 on a computer to be unreasonable and an indicator of fraud. They did not make any effort to contact me about this, the first I knew of it was my weekly internet shop called me and said I may not get my shopping that week as my bank had declined the transaction and it had a block on it for some reason. I had to call my bank and it was touch and go whether the shopping could be delivered as it was at the time of picking that they take the money. It is Christmas time and the computer company was Dell - and they let the transaction to Dell go through, so what exactly did this anti fraud action achieve other than to convince me to move banks?
  • Trying to buy our yearly christmas present to ourselves from eBuyer and Barclays have declined it. I passed Verified by Visa and even rang eBuyer up to confirm the details. Barclays say that eBuyer is at fault and I should have no problems.

I have it regular each month when Amazon Webservices tries to take its monthly fee (around 50p), card gets blocked for 24 hours every month. Every time I call the CSAs say the card is "clear".
