Equifax obstructing my statutory credit report

Hi, not sure if this is the right place but here goes...

In short, I requested all my credit reports about a month ago. Experian came through fine, but Equifax wrote me a letter - after 10 days - asking to see additional evidence of identity, namely a bill and a copy of a Government document. They told me where I could send it to online, a separate website - but go to the website and surprise surprise, there's not only no option to send the additional details, but nothing really about Equifax at all! I have the option of sending copies through the post, but there's no way I'm sending copies of such things through the post, and at even more expense to myself.

I'm more than willing to bet I wouldn't be having this problem if I'd signed up for one of the free trials (I've already had one so can't do it again). And the really insulting thing is that they took the money for my report, that they've not issued!

Has anybody else had this problem? It seems that they're making it deliberately difficult to obtain a statutory credit report, especially seeing as Experian sent theirs with no problem. Very frustrating, and I thought they were legally obliged to send it within 7 working days of the request no questions asked anyway?

Sometimes quirks in the system can be annoying but you just need to see if it worth spending time on. If this is the first time just send the copies requested - after all how much does second class post cost? Just 30p. Once you have got your first report, there should not be any problems with subsequent ones as you will already be setup on their system.

To be fair I have never had any problems getting the statutory report from either agency.
  • I've had a report from them before, at least twice. This is the first time I've been asked to 'verify my details'. In fairness this isn't the first time I've had problems with them either - when I did the free trial they took the year's fee and I had to call them up for a refund, despite my cancelling the service after a week.

And I'm not sending copies of personal documents through the post if it can possibly be avoided. Not after today at work when the postie refused to let me sign for a Recorded item because 'it's only recorded'.

In any event, I've found it now - on the main Equifax site as opposed to the wild goose chase the letter sent me on, and only then after a serious amount of random clicking. I'm just unimpressed, especially as they took the fee long before providing me with anything - and I wonder how many people give up just because they can't be bothered. Stuff about organising things in breweries springs to mind...

Ive mentioned this in another post tonight

Usually it's Experian who want the proof even if you've had reports off them before

For me this time its CallCredit who want the proof as i've moved

But Equifax normally just send out their messy, hard to read and normally inaccurate report.

Equifax reports look like they've been generated on a Commodore Vic 20 or even A BBC Micro from the 80s

    lol

Not after today at work when the postie refused to let me sign for a Recorded item because 'it's only recorded'.

i thought the whole idea of recorded post was to sign for it

You'd think, but apparently not... It's not the first time I've heard that quote uttered by RM men either.

Thanks for people replying to what was basically a rant! I just wonder why it's in their interests to make it so awkward for people to obtain reports this way - surely nothing to do with their subscription schemes?! :p
