Santander Zero Card Direct Debit

I onpened a Zero card a few months ago and on the application form requested a direct debit for the full monthly balance to be paid.

My current account now shows an active direct debit instruction from Santander with my CC reference number, and on my statement this month a message on page 2 stating 'Direct Debit of £ 1.53 will be debit on of after 23/11/2009'

(The £1.53 is the full balance this month)

So 23rd came and went, so I called today to find out when it would be taken only to be told that they have no record of any instruction being set up??? When I asked about how / why / when this happen the adviser stopped short of saying I was lying about what it said on my statement and thought I must be mistaken.

I was told that a £12 late payment fee might be refunded as goodwill, and that the information sent to the credit reference agency might be amended by they could not say for sure.

Has this happened to anyone else?

I did check with my bank who simply said the DD instruction is set up (as has been for many weeks) and there is no reason that it would not go through if it gets requested.
These are my thoughts and no one else's, so like any public forum advice - check it out before entering into contracts or spending your hard earned cash!

I don't know everything, however I do try to point people in the right direction but at the end of the day you can only ever help yourself!

The ignorance of advisors - how come they get given that title? I would simple wait until the next the statement to see if Abbey apply any charges - if they do then fire off a letter with the evidence that a DD has been set up and that Abbey statement itself acknowledges that the payment will be taken by DD which in turn can only happen if Abbey has set it up! My guess however, is that the balance will be taken in the next few days.
