How do I open my window?

Options
It's summer now, so I want to open my window, but I can't as it's painted shut! Does anyone have any ideas on how to get it open? My other window is also painted open ( ) but we've got secondary inner glazing so that wasn't quite as annoying.

By the power of my mind I will open it for you.

Maybe if you say what type of window, ie sash, run a paint scraper down the paint.

Yes, mind over matter tends not to work, when the 'matter' is several layers of old paint.

You need a chisel scraper like this :

.. and a hammer and a lot of patience. Tap the blade in gently to break the paint film - and run the blade up and down the frame several times to clear it out. Then a bit of persuasion should open it? Had several overpainted sash windows with the same problem. But it is good security !!

Stab an edge with a pointy knife or screwdriver, being sure you only apply enough pressure to break the paint seal not the frame. Then get a butter knife and slide it behind the edge and run it as far up and down as is possible, lever outwards slightly. Go inside and push as hard as you dare to weaken the seal. Go back outside and continue with the butter knife. Repeat, repeat, repeat. sooner or later the paint will crack, and then you have all the fun of smoothing the edges. I had to do this with my garage windows when I moved in here as they too had been painted shut. Please bear in mind though that the windows I did this to had metal frames so I didnt need to worry about damaging the frames.
