MASSIVE issue with british gas

Ive had an ongoing issue with BG since i switched a year ago from EON.

Basically EON switched me with the wrong meter reading, and ended up putting me £400 in credit with them, and owing BG the same.

Apparently they cant just pay BG, i have to, so theyve sent me a cheque. Theyve now sent this about 7 times. Its never recieved! meanwhile BG had been great about it, they knew i was a payer, i paid £35 a month every month without fail, then suddenly a DD went out for £140. I immediately reclaimed it through my bank, and rang BG to ask why (as an online customer) i had not recieved an email or letter regarding a DD increase. They admitted i hadnt been sent one, apologised and put the gas account on hold for me for 28 days while i continued to chase EON. I have continued to pay them online with my card at £35 a month.

i checked my Experian report a week ago and nothing was on it from them (as i expected?) and then i checked tonight and theyve added my electricity account on as Green Satisfactory and my gas one as 6 weeks behind in arrears!!!

ive rang them tonight and they confirmed my gas account is on hold due to the situation (this has been dealt with by a manager previously ) and she apologised. i went spare to be honest. a) why in gods name is it suddenly on my file, b) she said its a change in their terms recently which they dont have to notify me about that they now put it on your credit file! and c) why on earth do they have my incorrect DOB on my file to!!!! i may get a bloody CIFAS marker with that sort of thing!!!!

Who can i write to, they say they are going to get it investigated and marked as Q on my file. To be honest thats not good enough, i guess i just wanna know who i can complain to.

    Hi prettypaula,

This is what is normally known as an ARD (Agreed Read Dispute), it is where the readings used at the time of a transfer from one supplier to the other either doesn’t match or both companies use the same read, but the reading is wrong for the date it is meant to be for.

Usually these are noticed and a dispute is raised, the suppliers then re-agree the correct reading for the transfer date.

Unfortunately if the reading in question is over 12 months old, a dispute can not be raised.

The issue with the cheque being sent shouldn’t be happening, the cheque must be held up in error possibly by a dispute on the account or due to the amount it is still awaiting authorisation.

If you’d like me to investigate the cheque problem please feel free to email me on the email address to the left of my post.

I will do what I can to get the cheque sent to you today. :)
