The new card has the 'servicecard 100' printed on it but doesn't have a hologram with the £100 sign which the maestro had. Does this mean that I can't guarantee cheques with the replacement visa card?

    Yes, that is correct.

If your card does not have a cheque guarantee hologram on it, then you are not able to guarantee a cheque with it.

I do sometimes still like to send a cheque in the post or use cg facility down the local curry house day before pay day .........

As long as they still give you a cheque book with the account, you can still send cheques in the post, as these are not guaranteed anyway. But you just won't be able to pay for things in shops or your local curry house, as they'd require the cheque guarantee facility.
  • i can't understand why i was issued one then given a different card as a replacement though.

they can't seem to explain either other than saying "there is no difference in the cards"

There is a simple reason for this. When you first opened your account you would have had a basic cashcard with it, then once the account had been open a while they upgrade you to a servicecard. Both cards will be linked to the same account so you can use them both with that account.

The Blue card you got will be a replacement for the original 'historical' basic cashcard from when you first opened the account, the Purple one will be the replacement for the servicecard which they upgraded you to afterwards.

Basically you should have a Blue one AND a Purple one for the same account - like i have.

    Does that make sense?

The hologram has been moved to the reverse of the card, if its not there then guessing it was a manufacturing error.

Steer clear of natwest advantage gold account. Nothing more than milking customers. The only 'advantage' is profit for the banks.

If it's not there it's because of what i have already explained above.

The only 'error' in any of the confusion over these cards is that the staff at Natwest just don't understand that Historical basic debit cards that were no longer being used after they upgraded a customer to servicecard status are still being issued, and that is why they are still sending many customers 2 different cards. It's not a mistake. It's quite obvious when you think about it.

I understand what you have said but the poster i was replying to said the card had "servicecard 100" printed on the front of the card but no Cheque guarantee hologram so my answer was correct in this instance.
