Isn't Facebook a marvellous thing? This T may not think so any more...
A Tenant of a Camden Council property in Primrose Hill sublet it to two other Ts for £200 a week whilst she living with her partner on a joint tenancy at a different property in Ireland, and claiming benefits in the process. She'd told the two Ts that she owned the property.
The Council have of course repossessed the Primrose Hill property, making use of identifying information on the pretend LL's Facebook page.

D'oh!
I do wonder, though, how many fraudulent claims there are in the system? :eek:0 -
In fact, didn't a landlady catch her tenant out after seeing pictures of a house party, in her flat, where the place was getting a bit wrecked?
Facebook can have its uses I suppose!0 -
I doubt Camden fell on the information by accident, I expect someone tipped them the wink.
I'm an LA tenant and their people come out to visit from time to time and ask us to provide ID at the doorstep. I'm fine with that and I agree with it0 -
It's a pity that the two duped sub tenants hadn't done their own checking on the "LL" and on who really owned the property. They will of course have had to find themselves a new home at pretty short notice.0

If they refuse to move they can wait to get evicted, then the council has to house them if they can't themselves.
Although they were paying £200 a week, should be able to afford their own place.0 -
Greed and stupidity go hand in hand. No surprise.Hi, we've noticed that you don't have a signature to remove. If you're not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you are feeling left out.0

Camden and Southwark are the most proactive councils in London who reclaim illegally sublet properties from council tenants who no longer live there - they have recovered hundreds of properties to date.
Few other councils have dedicated teams or resources to do this. Some local authorities or HAs in the UK don't even bother with the 2 yearly National Audit initiative that flags up suspicious data that helps to identify those falsely claiming right to buy, home owners who present themselves as homeless, those who no longer live in the property and so forth.0
