Hi, I posted on here the other day for ideas for a Communion cake. Well I decided to use a Delia recipe for a fruit cake and used someone's idea of using a roasting tin to bake it in.
Well, last night I started by soaking the fruit and I've spent ages today making it
. I've just tried to get it out of the tin and gently battled it out and now there's a big crater in it where it's stuck to the tin. I've eased the lump out and placed it lovingly on top of the rest of the cake but is there any way I can make it stick so it doesn't look broken or fall apart when it's cut?
I did grease the tin but in hindsight I probably should have lined it as well :doh::think: bit late now though!
Please help, I've spent a fortune on ingredients and wish I'd just gone to Costco.

Don't panic!! If you brush the inside of the hole with some apricot jam then put the missing bit inside it then put a sheet of baking paper on top and put a weight - like a chopping board with a couple of tins on it - on top for about an hour it should "stick" - It won't be perfect but you should be able to ice it. If you put the cake on the board its going to be served on before you start to reassemble it so much the better. Good luck!Jane

Thanks, should I do this while it's still warmish or wait for it to be completely cold. It's the first proper cake I've ever made. Think maybe I should've started with something a bit more simple.:smileyhea0

I've done this before too and it does work! Do it while the cake is still warm and put plenty on, the cake will absorb some of it and the rest will act as the 'glue'. Good luck, let us know how it goes.

Oh thanks, I'm glad it's not just me then!
I've just put loads of jam on and tried to piece it back together. It's sat on my worktop now with some weight on top of it, so fingers crossed. :undecided I'll check it after Big Brother and hopefully it'll be all stuck together again.
Thanks for saving me, I was gutted when it fell apart  :T:smileyhea0 -
Too late now, but after having the same thing happen to me I line the bottom of even non stick (Ha!) pans with greaeproof paper. Then you just need to slide a knife down the sides and lift.

I baked a cake last night for some friends coming round for a barbie. Had cream and strawberries to decorate it. Got distracted, and made it all wrong. Made another, and inexplicably some of it it seeped out of the tin (need to clean oven now). Couldn't serve either, so strawberry and cream surprise for pud. Will be turning the cakes into tiramisu, with left over cream for some other friends over the weekend.

I've just unveiled the cake after usung the jam glue and it looks ok. It's definitely worked but I think some sneaky person has eaten a bit as there's a hole in it  where there was a bit of cake missing. Hubby reckons I should make another but I think he just wants to eat this one.
I'm not sure what to do now as the cake has definitely stuck back together but I don't think it will slice very well with a bit missing.
Thanks for everybody's help as I was very stressed last night!! I will definitely line EVERY cake tin from now on.:smileyhea0 -
Sorry to hear about your misshap. It has happened to all of us - even Delia I would imagine. Why does it always happen on a special occasion cake though? If we just throw one together there are no probs.
Try keeping it as cool as possible before cutting.
Good luck0
