Domestic wind turbines

I have noticed the vast majority of people dont have a feel for how much effort it takes to generate a unit of electricity. As an engineer its pretty obvious to me that a micro wind turbine on your roof wont get you very far.

There was a good programme on the other day (bang goes the theory I think) where someone set up a load of cyclists (80 of them) attached to generators and they had to pedal to power devices in a normal house. Its well worth trying to find it on iplayer if you want to get an idea of the quanitiy of energy involved to power various appliences. Then compare that to a micro turbine and you'll work out its a complete joke.

I have seen a noticeable increase in this type of "confrontational" posting of late.

If you read my input on this Board over the past 4 years I seem to have the reputation of the chief solar sceptic.

I have frequently stated that Solar Hot Water is an absolute joke in money saving terms. Solar PV was an even more expensive joke until the proposed FIT payments for next April were announced; even then I don't think solar PV is financially viable.

So that seems a rather strange stance for the owner of a solar panel factory.

My owning a solar panel factory is about as unlikely as the Pope personally owning a condom factory;)

The above quote seems suficient for you to believe it might have some validity and require I answer the accusation.

Well I 'did a little digging, talked to a few people' and guess what I discovered that you own a disgusting website that specialises in(censored). So would you care to confirm or deny it? A straight yes or no will suffice;)

I dont care about how long you have been on this board Cardew. Good luck to you . I look at each post on its merits and as there are so many on these forums with axes to grind and undeclared interests I believe it is entirely reasonable to ask to for clarity. So sorry you don't like it. You could have answered the question in 1/10 the time it took you to write your tirade.

And i have no link whatever with mr tyke (another conspiracy theorist), but your response gives me some sympathy for him.

As you claim to be such a great detective you will undoubtedly know that a basic principle in Law is that the accused is innocent until proved guilty. Therefore it is up to you to prove your claims that Cardew is indeed not what he appears to be !

Any chance of getting this thread back on topic? True in most cases micro wind turbines are a complete con but if you out in a rural area, have no surround building forest, either on top of a hill or on large flat plane of land.

Can get Planning permission for turbine on high enough pole you can produce meaningful amount of eleci.

Also note that if your not going to be there all the time a lot of these micro turbine require monitoring during storm and such like. I personally wouldn't recommend them for somewhere that only got occasional occupancy Get some solar panels and call back to the grid, There may be stream near by which would be suitable for a small hydro turbine?

I didn't say you used the phrase!

I coined the phrase about the 'disgusting website' to demonstrate how stupid yorkityke's allegations were.

It is a pity you didn't read his posts that have been deleted by the moderator - threats of violence and full of raving ranting nonsense!!

To call him 'a little eccentric' was an understatement!! Yet you jump in and take such nonsense seriously and berate me for the eccentric comment!

Perhaps if your comments were a little more considered?
