Anybody know how to make a (printed) banner?

I want to make a banner for boss's retirement. Anybody know if there are any decent programs out there (preferably free!). Never used one before either, do I have to get special paper or join up A4s? I haven't a clue but know it can be done.

I was thinking more of a program that does it. I have seen banners up where it looks like one long bit of paper (no joins I could see anyway!). I was told they were done on a pc. Unfortunately, I don't have publisher on my pc and it's a bit expensive for a one-off job.

Some printers (mainly Epson I think) take paper rolls - you can use Word, type over several pages, then print sideways (or rotate the text so it runs down the page).

Blue Peter approach is similar - just type stuff very big, then tape/glue the pages together (or dig out an old dot-matrix printer - much more nostalgic!).

    Brilliant!!!

Turns out I do have Publisher on lappy, have looked at it just figuring how to print. OMG!!! you just reminded me how old I am, used to have a dot-matrix 20 years ago (the word 'sprockets' came to mind there for some reason!). And I have just realised there is an epson printer lying around at work with the roller attachment thingys. I had completely forgotten about it.

Problem solved, once again, by the fab people on here. Thanks again.

Thanks for that HIBS, I was a bit worried there when I saw the name on the link, I thought it may have been some kind of anagram :rotfl:

Great site, may not use it this time but it has been added to my favs.
