Fitting a car stereo? Fiat Punto
My OH has just brought a 2000 Fiat Punto. There is a gap where the stereo should go and the wires are there and it looks like the wires just plug into a stereo. The wires have little plastic plugs and sockets on. Is it really that easy to install a car stereo where there has been one before or is it wishful thinking? We looked at a new stereo from Halfords for £49.99 and they want another £49.99 for fitting??!

Stereos are rather simple to fit, normally just plug in for the head unit.
You may need a new facia though and possible a FIAT ISO converter. The wires that come from the stereo are generally generic, but the car may not have the converter in.
I would guess it had as the previous owner has taken the stereo so seems they would have an aftermarket one in.
If you google FIAT ISO you should be able to compare the picture results to what you have

For a 2000 punto you will need a fascia plate like this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Fiat-Punto-Radio-Fascia_W0QQitemZ120496841056QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item1c0e2be160 You may also need an aerial adaptor which is included in this kit http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/AUTOLEADS-FIAT-PUNTO-STEREO-FACIA-FASCIA-FITTING-KIT_W0QQitemZ350278274848QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Cars_Parts_Vehicles_Terminals_Cabling_ET?hash=item518e364f20. The punto normally only provides a permanant live power supply so you will need a radio that can have the red and yellow wires joined or get a adaptor harness which is contained in this kit http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FP-01-04-Fiat-Punto-Black-Stereo-Fascia-Facia-Panel_W0QQitemZ160376580876QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_FasciaPlates_SM?hash=item2557306b0c.
