letters addressed to my son at my address

Keep returning them.
1 - your son could be telling the truth and have no outstanding debts. Debt collection agencies have been known to go on the slimmest of leads and if your son has a name similar to another debtor that would be enough for them to think it worthwhile to send a dozen letters on the off chance.
2 - the debt could be incorrect even if it IS your sons - sometimes records of debts are not updated and paid off debts are "sold" to these collection agencies. I had that happen and it's very annoying
3 - If he last lived at your address and it IS a debt of his from then then it's comething called statute barred - it means they can't chase the debt any more unless there is a CCJ on it. Highly unlikely they'd have left it until now.
Bailiffs if they turn up can't just break in and if they DO come then all you have to do is tell them YOU live there (might might ask for proof of ID) - I suspect that one look will tell them you are telling the truthThe home of an OAP and a 20/30 year old look vastly different
Stop worrying about royal mail not handling the letters with priority - they will be treated with the priority the original sender used - if they sent them 1st class then they'll be returned 1st class. I would on the next envelope write "NOT AT THIS ADDRESS - FURTHER LETTERS WILL BE SEEN AS HARRASSMENT AND REPORTED TO FINANCIAL OMBUDSMAN!"
Please don't worry - IF this debt is your sons then it has nothing more to do with you than if it were MY debt - and you don't know meThey can't break into your home and they can't force their way past you if you open your door - if they do call 999!

Thank you MrsTine
I will write what you suggest on any further letters received.
My son is 38 yrs of age, left home over 15yrs ago, although 9yrs ago, he and his partner did stay here for approx 7weeks.
I do have my council tax payment notice which shows that I receive a 25% discount for living on my own at my address.0 -
We got lots of letters because the previous occupants of our house ran up lots of debt then got reposessed. It is scarey at first but we just returned the letters - we did call/fax some of the debt collectors but now I would not get so worried.
Mrs Tine gave you some fab advice. Just keep telling them that he is not at this address and if you need to, report them to the Ombudsman.

Have a look at this thread.
It explains the reasoning and then gives a link to another thread with my template letter for making a complaint against the DCA.
This is likely to take some time to resolve, I'm afraid.0 -
