New car delivery

I have ordered a new car with VW using the car scrappage scheme. I ordered it on 8th October & was told then it would take approx 6 weeks. As the 6 weeeks were nearly up I rang last week to find out any news. The guy I had been dealing with said that it was a little delayed (no reason why) & it may be the beginning of December. I rang again yesterday, spoke to another person who rang head sales department & found that due to a strike where they made it, the delivery was 4 weeks behind. That would be fine if I had a car but my car has now broken down (still accepted into scrappage). As they have delayed the delivery by 4 weeks do i have any grounds for being compensated? what I would like most is a car to have while I await my new one. I hinted this to the person at VW yesterday & they were not having a bar of it. Help!

If you have a look at your order form and the terms and conditions you will see that they are covered for this. Normally they give you dates but they are only estimates. I think its something like 3 months until you can start to try and talk about cancelling due to the delays.

Unfortunately VW are having massive lead times at the moment. My colleague ordered a Passat 3 months ago and its due in just before Christmas now.
  • this is only the start of your vw ownership issues, this is the calm before the storm:rotfl:

If the vehicle has a build date (or better still a gate release date) then the dealer should be able to provide that.

Remember this is German mentaility. If they say it will be built on a specific date, it will be!

If there is no build date, it probably isn't even scheduled for build yet. In that case, don't expect it for at least another 3 months.
However, you are dealing with an English dealer who probably couldn't care less, so factor that possibility into why he hasn't got the build & gate release dates.

Wonder if that is just bull?

Keep the pressure on and find out what is going on as Premier suggests. If it arrives after the end of the year will have the higher VAT to pay as well.
  • Anyone work for VAG to confirm or deny this strike actually happened?

I understand that the strike did happen but it was a little while ago now.

As for the comments about the build date definitely happening, my colleague has had his build date put back three times after iot was confirmed each time. This is happening a lot at the moment.

Which model VW did you order?

It's amazing how how many dealers would suggest a strike in Mexico affects cars built in Wolfsburg plant if it keeps the customer happy.
