We're buying our first home and was wondering what happens with the energy supply when we move in? Does it continue from the previous owners supply and then we choose to either continue with it or switch over to a different supply?

when you first move in you are on a 'deemed contract' with whoever is currently supplying the property. You've no choice in this. Once you're in you can switch straight away if you want, but you'll still be billed by the current suppliers until the switch happens.
Find out who the supplier is and have a look online at their tariffs and choose the best one for you, then when you ring up on the move in day to provide your readings tell them which tarriff you want to be on, otherwise they may put you on the most expensive.0
