Glass splashback

We are having a new kitchen fitted at the moment and I am thinking about having a glass splashback along the whole of the wall that the cooker will be on rather than tiles.
Just wondering if anyone else has done this or can recommend a brand or supplier. A lot of the ones I have seen on the net etc are very expensive made-to-measure ones and I am of course looking for the best deal.

Tried your local glass supplier??It has taken about 4,500,000,000 (4.5 billion) years for the Earth to form as it is now .........
and it'll only take about another 100 years for mankind to really **** it up!!!!0 -
It can't be anything other than made to measure, your local glazier will be able to help, make sure it's toughened.0

I've not seen this before I think. I would it work, you paint the wall and then screw glass in front of it? Wouldn't it be hard to keep clean behind a hob?
I quite fancy the glazed brick shaped tiles that are everywhere at the moment. They make me laugh in appliance places, £200+ for the splashback to go with the oven, which is a sheet of steel about 90x90cm x1mm thick, I know steel prices have gone up, but get real.0 -
We saw one in B&Q a while back that we really liked - and I think it was around £30 - however they wanted to charge us £20 delivery - as it was a delivery only item. Needless to say we told them where to go!! Our local glazier was able to cut us some toughened glass, to measure and no delivery charge!"A simple life freely chosen is a source of strength. Thanks guys. I did think it might be something you could ask a glazier, but knowing nothing about glass or the right type, or even what sort of company to approach, I thought I'd see what experiences and tips other people might be able to share.
I was thinking glass would actually be as easy to keep clean as tiles. No grout to get grubby. Nice smooth surface to wipe down... But who knows - hopefully it'll be worth it even if not as I think it'll look lovely in my nice new kitchen.0 -

might be easy to wipe but will steak constantly... for what type of glass go to b&q and ask, then go to a glaizer and ask for that type of glass?0 -
Ikea sell a top moulding made of aluminium that is designed to work with 6mm glass - I've seen some in the store done with obscured georgian wired glass and it looked rather classy. Another alternative is to get yourself to Pilkingtons as they now do a range of coloured laminated glass this is 6.3mm and can give a good effect.
