Help!! Friends sellers decide to pull out

It may sound "garbled", but is in fact third hand, so I have presented the "facts" (maybe not wise to call them that in this case) as I have heard them.
I think it is a pretty disgraceful affair, that the buyer should lose out because the seller changes their mind (for whatever reason), and this is a much criticised part of the house buying process.
Call me cynical, but could it be simply to allow members of the legal profession to further line their pockets?
Unfortunately the Solicitor has still done the work and needs to be paid - its not the solicitors fault the deal has fallen through. Some will waive the charge as long as you put the next sale through them.
My buyers pulling out cost me £420 last month so it works both ways - thats house buying / selling i'm afraid..0 -
Has the solicitor done £800 of work though? I totally agree that they should be paid a reasonable amount for their trouble, but I also think that whichever side decides to pull out of the contract (which offer and acceptance is), should be made to meet the costs in full.0

As others have said, it's unlikely that the solicitor has done £800 worth of work or indeed is charging that.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0
