Pvr -cheapest And Best

Options
I am looking to buy a PVR with built in freeview but i'm getting stuck on which to buy. What is the best price for one with good reviews? Also what is the difference between 2 tuners and 1?

With a twin tuner you can watch one Digital channel whilst watching another.
With a single tuner you can either watch the channel you are recording or an analog channel.
Topfield or Humax are the best to go for.

Have a look at the Panasonic TUCTH100.

Retails at around £150. It came top in the recent What Hifi Sound & Vision tests. It's not as easy to use or as polished as something like Sky+, but it does work well. I've not had any problems with mine so far.

  • The humax is supposed to be the best, the 9200, thats what we are getting to replace sky+ but the thompson at argos is supposed to be good @ only £100 with twin tuner.

    Hi
I think most people either go for the Topfield 5800 or the Humax 9200, these are the two that I looked at, I don't know anything about the others.
The Topfield is dearer than the Humax, but both are excellent pvr's, with twin tuner. I guess its a matter of personal choice but I went for the Topfield.
The Toppy and the Humax are not the cheapest pvr's, but by most accounts the best, have a look here.
    This one for the Toppy

And this one for the Humax

    Hope this helps

I couldnt do without my Humax 9200 is so great just to record programs I want to watch and pass all the rubbish that is out there. Plus you can skip the ads and have also updated firmware recently.

I swear by Humax we have 3 boxes (2 pvrs and there a godsend)

Personally I went for the Topfield 5800, as it is very customisable. You can add helper programmes onto it to provide extra functionality, and most of them are free.

There is also a very useful site providing help and advice for owners (current and potential). Have a look at http://www.toppy.org.uk where there's loads of useful stuff, including where to get them.

Not the cheapest, but defintely the best

Aldi are doing a twin tuner pvr from this Thurs at £99. Not sure how good it is, but with a 3 year no-quible guarantee, it could be a cost effective way of testing the water. Could be worth a look. Check out the AVforums web site for good advice on consumer electronics.
