A credit hire company adding a couple of days extra hire on at the end, that would be a [STRIKE] not that unusual [/STRIKE] first

So for example, here's what you are meant to do

    a) using car hire on insurance policy if you got it
    b) using courtesy car from garage if available
    c) using alternative transport e.g. train, bus, taxi, lift share, partners car etc.
    d) If none of the above are an option, then hiring at a reasonable rate for a reasonable amount of time.

Does any of that sound unreasonable?

    Yes.

    a) You don't have to make a claim off your own insurance if the third party is at fault.

    b) You don't have to use a courtesy car if it isn't viable (they are not intended to replace the vehicle being repaired, and may be too small/underpowered etc.

    d) How does the op know the definition of "reasonable"? And credit hire charges are far different from standard pre pay hire charges!

I trusted my insurance company when they said I needed a hire car.
I wasn't offered a courtesy car, but I doubt the yaris' that they had would be suitable for 3 adults, 2 car seats and a pram plus shopping.
I do not live anywhere near a bus route and tbh don't see why I should catch the bus when i wasn't to blame!

They provided a jaguar x type until it developed a fault then we got a bmw 320.

I did not request these cars. I did request a large enough car though. Ie. not a corsa.
Lead me not into temptation, I can find the way myself.

wins - peroni bottle opener, peroni bowl, peroni coastersx2 and a vodkat cocktail kit,
would love to win something 'proper'!!

So have you established whether the hire car was provided as part of you insurance policy or whether you(or your partner) signed a credit hire agreement?

    Hi

A couple of months ago someone drove into my car and damaged the back bumper,tail-light and back quarter of it.
    They admitted liability straight away.
When I contacted my insurers they took details of the damage over the phone and advised me that it wasn't roadworthy and that they would organise a hire car as i have guaranteed hire car cover.
a few days later my hire car arrived.
A few days after that my car went in for repair and the garage verbally agreed that the car shouldnt be driven until repaired.
The repairs took approx 2 weeks and then we gave the hire car back.

Now ive received a letter from the hire company informing me that the 3rd party insurer won't pay them because the damage did not make the car illegal to drive.
They have included photos of the damage taken in the dark so you cannot see the extent of the damage or tgat the bumper was pushed in.

I am really worried now because all I did was follow my insurance company's advice.

The hire car bill is about £1500!

FoS will typically not deal with a complaint from a third party about an insurer as their is no contract of insurance between them.
