What are my chances of an exchange with no receipt?

My friend had a phone bought as a wedding gift and it didnt work and he didnt like to go back to the person that bought it and asked for a receipt so he went in to Argos and bought an identical one. Returned the faulty one the next day for a full refund. (The item originally came from argos obviously).0

Good to know my homemade label idea wouldn't work - saved me some embarrassment.
I think I'll try buying an identical kettle. It'll mean lots of trips to argos (3, I think) to return it etc but at least I'll get the one I want without having to go back to my friend for a receipt - they would be offended (hope they can't remember what brand they bought me when they next visit!)
Anyway great idea!
