When people don't bother looking or using the search function to read the answer that has been given to this question thousands of times before? Very

    I doubt it.

The majority of the people who are unable to use the search function have a low post count.

This is why I bother answering them and then tell them to use the search function, as they may not have been aware there is one.

Hi iamanalias.... apologies for annoying you so very much that you felt the need to tell me that I had! Only upon asking this question did I even know the term "auto renewal".

Lesson definately learned (both regarding asking questions and renewing car insurance!), will be phoning them tomorrow to see if I can cancel anyway, even if it is a small fee it may be worth it as an alternative quote was £200 less so may work out with still a bit of a saving.

Moscow and proc, thanks for the helpful responses :)

I'd have thought 80+ posts and around 2 years was enough time to find the search button ;)

Well, as you started the trend by not reading your renewal documents I suppose it was too much to expect that you might spend 5 minutes on the insurance board. It really doesn't take much!

You will be surprised how hard some people find using forums.

Some people with similar post counts don't even know how to start a thread..................

Lots of companies do automatic renewal

Can you name one insurer that doesn't?

I've always been surprised by these types of threads. Every renewal letter I've received (having been with esure, direct line, admiral and many more) has stated "this is an automatic renewal letter" and "payment will be taken around" in bold print on the front page.

Admittedly I've never seen a Kwik Fit renewal letter, but surely it can't be as hard to miss as all these "they've taken my money!" threads seem to imply?
I've been making animations for my daughter. Tell me what you think? Search for "Where are you Pickles?" and "Pickles and the Bully" on YouTube.

It's not common, however Directline give you the option of not auto renewing.

I called them to take out cover last week and when on the phone the girl asked me if I would like them to auto renew or if I would like to discuss it at renewal time.

  • Having not read any of the reply's, this may be totally irrelevant now.

Yes I believe they can renew your insurance without your permission. My granny NEVER remembers to renew her home insurance and relies on them to renew it for her.

You have a 14 day cooling of period as well you know....and they should be sending you reminders about a month in advance, which if you read will clearly state they will automatically renew your policy. Did you actually bother to contact them? Or bother to read the renewal letters?

Bit lazy of you just to post without reading the thread!

And (as has already been posted) there is no 14 day cooling off period with regard to renewals!

    Yea I know, lazy :D

Is that ALL renewals for all insurances? I'm certain my home insurance gave me a 14 day cooling off period. I thought it was a statutory consumer right? Ok ok...I'll go use the search button :)
