Dfs again!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi,
I received delivery of my 3 seat chaise and single chair (brown leather, Boston range) from DFS around 7 weeks ago. I agreed on thier credit deal paying it back over 4 years.
When the sofa arrived it was nowhere near the quality of the one I looked at in the showroom. The back cushions were all creased and didn't seem to be stuffed anywhere near as much as the ones in the showroom and the leather on the cushions you sit on all seemed to be a bit loose. I pointed this out and was advised to wait 4 weeks as everything would decompress so to speak and it would be fine.
I waited 4 weeks and not only has it not changed but the seat I sit on (1 or 2 hours per night) the foam has started to collapse and is starting to cause me really bad pain in the base of my spine. Since I'm only 34 and weigh just over 10 stone I'd like to think that bad backs and being to heavy for the sofa were out of the question.
I called DFS who sent out this 'cocky little annoyance of a man' who actually told me that I wouldn't get a showroom standard sofa as the one I bought is sent on a ship tightly packed with around 50 other sofas from China. I pointed out the collapsing of foam, creasing and loose leather to which he told me that there is expected collapsing of foam on any sofa within the first few weeks. Conversation went back and forward on this subject and he contradicted himself several times on several questions I asked him. His visit ended with him telling me that he did not see anything wrong with the sofa but I could wait a few weeks and ask for someone else to come out for a second opinion.
At this point in time I'm about to contact them to come out and see the sofa again as I want them to at least re upholster the foam in the cushions that you sit in with a higher grade foam that is going to last.
My questions are:-
1. Am I in a position just now where I could contact them, explain what the first guy said (surely admitting that what you see in the showroom is not what you're actually going to get is some kind of mis sale or mis representation of goods) on which I should be able to cancel my payments and just tell them to come and collect the sofa?
2. Do I need to at least give them the chance of coming to view the sofa for a second time and see if they offer to try and repair the sofa?
3. If they carry out a repair which I deem to be unsatisfactory quality wise, for example, if they just send some guy out who stuffs it up with a bit more poor quality foam (which is what I am expecting to happen) am I in any position to cancel my payments?
I have already had to do this with Reids after myself and my wife waited 11 weeks for a sofa that arrived with patches of leather missing pieced in with black material, cracked feet, holes for feet not lining up, backs of seats peppered with little holes where the silica sachet had burst. I told them to come and collect it and cancelled any payments and now after waiting 13 weeks only to get this hassle now from DFS we are both starting to lose it.
Any suggestions anyone, I'd rather get out of this deal now if possible, I'm thinking of just calling them out one more time and then just telling them to come collect it, cancelling the direct debit and writing to Hitachi Finance explaing all the quality flaws and that DFS failed to deliver the same quality goods as I was lead to believe I was buying at the showroom.

    Dfs again!!!!!!!!!!!!

Title says it all - didn't you consider searching for DFS problems before setting foot in their shop?!

You have a battle and will probably need an independent expert opinion. My sister tried and failed with them, despite advice from me not go near the place.
  • I know I should have looked into it first. I've only just found out about this site but after my hassle with Reids I should have done my homework better.
  • I bought two 3 seater leather sofas around 4/5 years ago. I haven't had any problems at all with them, they haven't sagged or the leather flaked at all. They get some stick too. Just to add they wern't sale price sofas, We paid full price.

Have I just been lucky ?
Wow, I got 3 *, when did that happen :j:T:p

Toolbag, you can contact FIRA/ The Furniture Ombudsman for advice. Google will take you to their website.
    Gone ... or have I?
  • I would ask for a second visit from a different upholsterer.

Foam does lose 15-20% of its density within the first few weeks of use, it "beds" in and naturally softens.

Has it just softened / massively collapsed?

Not in my world, you should not lose 15-"20% density in the first year let alone a few weeks,it will soften over time true. How do I know this 32 years as a upholsterer, and yes I worked at one time at DFS,and know the tricks they pull

Any chance of telling us what those tricks are?

I was thinking of buying a new sofa at DFS, I bought my last one there about 7 years ago and it's been a star sofa, (not cheap mind you), and is still in excellent condition today with no loss of colour or sagging, but I want a change of colour now that my living room is being newly decorated. However after reading the stories about DFS now I'm a little concerned, so can anyone recommend a good place to buy a decent sofa, that I can Pay Cash for (not credit), and at prices that won't break the bank!:D
