thank you for my new way of thinking

i just want to say a BIG thank you to martin and this brill site.......

first of all i have saved £150.. on my car insurance, and stayed with the same firm...just by phoning round on the free phone no...and getting quotes.. then going back to my insurer.. and telling them...so they done something called a price match, plus they take another £10.oo off the price...so rather than monthy instalments of over £25.00 a month ..i paid it off in one payment....so freeing up that amount each month...

i have also saved £25.00 a month on my council tax by going down a band..just by questioning ..them....

so now £50.00 freed up...

i have also upped my overdraft..at an interest of 5.9%...and paid £400.00 off a credit card that was charging me 29% INTEREST...so only £300.00 left there which i am hoping to pay off within the next 2 months .we have also tranfered my hubby's c.c. to a 0% interest one...

but apart from the obvious money saving ones like the above...and the money off vouchers freebies...discount codes etc....i save on average BETWEEN £15 - £30.00 a week on my everyday spends..like shopping etc...

even though i am in debt for a lot of money......i can now......LIVE...... not just exsist........

this site has really made me think...differently when it comes to spending and money......and finding those loopholes i now think how can i make the big boys loose money on my spending.....

i think ...that they should teach this type of logic thinking in schools.....as its all well and good teaching those....wired ...maths ..and other subjects...but why dont they teach them really live lessons....like looking after your money......and aprs ard the really meaning of them......

sorry if i have bored everyone reading this...but if you feel anything like i do since finding this site....you will know....how proud i am feeling about the savings and the change in spending habits... that has happened to me since reading other peoples experiences... and advice...

and THANK YOU MARTIN........AND EVERY ONE AT MSE..............

also martin do you think you could maybe consider asking the right mp..about teaching this type of thinking in schools....like jammie oliver done with the school dinners....as my kids just want to spend money...like i did...and dont have a clue.....they will be riped off...as you know they live in a " i want i will have at any cost " WORLD...

ye robnye...it brill.....when i have got a bargin, and saved myself a lot of money because of this site.....i walk round as though i have won the lottery....its such a brill feeling knowing you are in control and you are the one that pulled the financial strings so to speak..and not being financially trodden on......and the thing is ,...when i tell my friends how much i save, and about the loopholes ...with like tesco boots etc with the shopping, they look at me as though i am going a bit do lally...i'm sure they think i am lying....but ha-ho their loss.. i can only tell them about this site and the savings.....
even though i still do owe a lot of money...and its not going to be paid off over night....those little savings... like using vouchers at tescos..etc...really do a big difference..financially and with your confidence.....its the confidence to know that you can do it... is the biggest thing that i have achieved with this site i think.....

  • How I agree with the idea that personal finance management should be taught as standard in schools (as should first aid). Our culture definitely needs an attitude change - there's something wrong when the telly spews out adverts for loans during every daytime commercial break ('CCJs? No problem - just pay less for longer! Much longer...') yet there'd be more vociferous complaints from the nation if Carol Vorderman were heard to broadcast an offensive word on Countdown than there are from a population who should be enraged at seeing her and others like her relentlessly try to line their pockets by assuming people are ignorant of what's really going on.

Yet... it's all perceived as acceptable because too many people are still ignorant of what's really going on, and because a lot of the people clawing their way out of debt are too ashamed to say so. The real everyday images of people losing their homes (and often even their minds) because of debt are never shown, so flash cars and yachts etc are seen as the 'consequences' of taking out a loan (and they're kind enough to give you an elephant's lifespan to repay it - how could you refuse such generosity..?)

I'm very thankful for this site too. I hope it goes a long way towards changing attitudes and overturning the belief of the loan companies that investing in all that airtime is worthwhile because we really are that stupid. With any luck, we as a nation won't be for much longer, we'll be the last generation to half-suffocate ourselves with debt and our kids won't know what it is to spend the best part of a lifetime paying out a fortune every month to keep themselves in misery.

I'll happily help head the crusade, holding my (re-used and recycled) Lidl carrier bags aloft with pride. One day, these will be a sign of common sense and financial acumen, and will have become the status symbol they deserve to be :)
Eek! Someone's stolen my signature!

wow....i really do think people are starting to get wise,, maybe out of being in the situation... rather than stopping it before it happens... but with martin being so passionate about it on t.v. and the more exposure he and this site gets the better in my opinion... as then the big boys will have to sort their act out as we will not be standing for it any longer.....

i got brought up in the age of 80's boom you can have ....if you want it....and there was a relaxed attitude to lending money which have lasted for years....so i have been brought up not knowing any different... parents in debt i thought it was the way life .......i so wish i had really looked at my grand parents way of living more closely.. and not borrowed, and went without or made do.... but i have seen the light so to speak and this site is making me more confident in dealing with the situation... and also helping me save money.... which i am now trying to pass on to my kids.... how much of it will sink in i dont know , but i am trying ....
