Wedding Rings - Titanium?

  • I recommend Tungsten over Titanium as its heaver and I prefer the colour.

I've recently brought a groom's Tungsten wedding ring from John Greed Design, he also has an ebay shop.

I'm really pleased with the ring, it looks incredibly masculine and cost just £25.
The service from John Greed was first class and I'm looking forward to purchasing from him again.
I ordered the wrong size, it was changed at no cost within days - no problem at all.

Tungsten rings are very strong and durable, search YouTube for clips of people trying to mark and scratch them.

My OH is considering a titanium ring, durable and some of the designs are quite nice.

As long as you like it then it doesnt matter what its made out of!
2010 is the year of bargain shopping! Time to money save, exercise and plan! I like to keep busy :)
  • I'd second (or third!) the vote for palladium. It's in the same family as platinum and although I'm sure there are differences they aren't ones that normal people will see.

I thought my OH might go for titanium as he cycles lots and the titanium would keep him lighter! but he decided on palladium and is very happy with it...
  • £50 for a titanium ring???? You can buy a whole bicycle frame made of aircraft grade titanium for £700!!
Some serious mark ups in the jewellry industry.
  • Me and hubby have titanium wedding rings bought from http://ghmoore.co.uk
A fab little shop in Hockley, Birmingham. They do a lot of bespoke jewellery too.
Both the wedding rings and my engagement ring came from there.
We mostly got titanium because hubby's a bit of a engineering geek and titanium's his favourite metal (!) but I love it because it's me-proof (I'm a bit clumsy!!) and hypo-allergenic and it's light and it looks classy.

Definately recommend GH Moore. They were brilliant.

We got my OH's ring from the John Greed website, ordered a few sizes and styles and returned the ones we didn't want as they had a great returns policy. He carries things all day for work so wanted something strong, it is light (as someone mentioned) and tough. Yes it has scratched lightly, but then he didn't want a bright sparkly shiny thing in the first place.

It cost £30-ish. Looks just like white gold although he's forever telling people it's titanium and how good it is!

Just thought I would mention this amazing website where have seen loads of titanium stuff. Thought it might help your search.

    Good luck

You can search via material and his and hers etc.
Debt free, smiling and proud - it's been a long @$$ road!
If you're going through it, know that you got this! Believe in the process and you can do anything you put your mind to!
I've got this, I can do this, I believe in me! xXx
  • Just remember - if a ring is much, much stronger than your finger, in the case of an accident, your finger will come off rather than the ring...
Palladium is also meant to be really durable, and apparently is due to be hallmarked in the new year at which stage the price will shoot up so now is a good time to order it. Might be worth a look.

My ring is Palladium - it's very white and will never tarnish, however it did scratch up very quickly (only minor surface scratches). Still looks nice after 18 months, its also very light and hypoallergenic

    I must second that comment.
I had my heart set on Titanium rings, and was stunned that more people hadn't chosen them since they were so cheap, looked great and were very strong. However, I mentioned it to my sister and she grabbed me and begged me not to! She had spoken to some paramedics for work and they mentioned that if some has an accident/ has seroius burns they CANNOT cut through titanium wedding rings which can cause a lot of pain and complications. They strongly recommended people don't go for them.
I know this is a really grim thing to think about, and god forbid anything like that should ever happen, but just thought I'd mention it.

If you get a metal with a low amount of gold, eg 9ct, it will have more alloy metal (cheaper, stronger metals such as palladium) in it which will make it more durable. It will also be cheaper for a band.
    Good luck!

I second this. Titanium rings can't be cut off in case of an emergency, and if your FH is a landscaper, he probably does a decent amount of work with his hands. I'm not sure it's a risk you (or he) would want to take.

Have you considered platinum? You did say you wanted something durable, and from what I have read, platinum is one of the most durable metals used for jewelry.

Anyway, it's just another option for you to look into. No one else in this thread has mentioned it, so I figured I would. I hope some of this helps! :)
