hiya
I have a 7 month old dog who is a large breed and has very strong teeth/jaw and I am finding it very expensive to keep buying toys as he chews through them very easily and I dont want him swallowing any bits he bites off. He is going through a stage of eating and chewing everything so need to keep him distracted. Some of the toys he eats through within minutes of giving him a new toy.
Any ideas on what I can do or any toys I can buy him which will last more than a day!!????
any help would be appreciated.

Theres something similar to this in Asda for around half the price ideal for teething pups. My doppy dog tho will not use anything like this as she was taught not to take toys of any form from her previous owners as they had very young children so she has to suffice with a good bag of bones from the butchers.:j Was married 2nd october 2009 to the most wonderful man possible:j

We have 6 dogs in the family, 4 are large extremely strong jawed dogs, so toys have to be incredibly tough.
We always use a great local Dog training school who sell Kong & Dong type toys which we find stand up to the worst kind of ravaging!
These people are fabulous, they may not be the size of a mutli- national but they will go out of their way to get anything you ask for at a great price and with a great personal touch.
We've had loads of stuff from them and we can highly recommend their quality of service.!

hiya we used to have a rottie and i recommend the kong toys, all shapes and sizes there is also a ball called the indestructable and mine never tired of playing with it.
also as a treat we used to give him raw chicken thighs or wings that had been frozen and he loved them but was on the barf diet so was used to raw foodsnow proud mum to 3 handsome boys :j latest one born 10/10/11:j0 -
I was going to suggest raw bones but see Mirrorimage has beat me to it. Quite safe if they eat the entire thing and very MSE - free if you have a friendly butcher!Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0

we found the best thing that worked for our dog was a selection of nylabones, kong toys (both the original and the frisbee), and tough rubber toys (tug of war, rubber ball). and, just because something has been graded 'super tough!' doesnt actually mean it will stand up to the rigours of a collie/lab cross! (one globe toy rated with 4/4 teeth for toughness barely lasted a day before splitting!)
we rotate the toys/bones around, and we also have a couple of ball treat dispensers, some rawhides, and some other toys (such as beanbags or stuffed animals) that she gets ONLY if we are in the room with her, and the moment she starts to tear them apart we take them off her and give her a bone.
if you do live local to a petstore, it might be worth taking the dog in for a visit- our local stores (including PAH) allow dogs in - and you might get a better idea of which may stand up.
as you mentioned that your dog is only 7m, it would be worth investing in more expensive longer lasting toys- especially as you are coming up to the new teenage/chewing phase! our dog is in the process of leaving hers, and she's over 2 now.
edit : and raw bones/wings seconded here!0 -
I have not found a single toy yet that my dog cannot chew to bits.
She has a massively powerful jaw and also she will pick and pick and pick at the slightest bit until eventually she finds a way in to completely wreck whatever it is.
She has trashed all Kongs, the Tug a Jugs (all types), any toy that says "Indestructable" on the label, nylon toys, the works. Nothing is dog proof for her!
The best ones to last though are ones with proper soft latex in them, but they are hard to come by now.
If you find one, I would love to know what it is.0 -
I haven't manage to find a 'squeeky' ball that doesn't lose it's 'squeek'. Unfortunately my dog doesn't like the hard type ones. I have a cone shaped toy from Pets at Home, which chucks out treats when it is knocked over and then it bounces back up, and this stopped her chewing the toy itself. It cost about £10 but it was worth it. She goes barmy over it and wears her out too!0

We have a skye terrier that can chew anything to pieces that he chooses, with the exception of the Kong toys. He's gone through every other type of toy, so-called indestructible or not.
However, we have found that he loves soft, children's toys and, although he mouths them, he does not destroy them. He currently has a selection of cuddly-material dogs, cats and elephants that have stood the test of time (upto 9-12 months) and he plays with them every evening.
However, if there is a hard squeaker inside them, or they have hard button-noses, he soon gets rid of those.
His favourite chew is one of my wife's old bras!0
