renovating barn for business use

I currently run a business but would like to look into renovating a barn to hire out for wedding receptions. It will not be a permanent residence for anyone so where do i stand with planning permission. Also can it be on amenity, grazing or agritultural land as it will not be lived in. Any advise would be fab- thanks!

You would need to obtain change of use planning permission for leisure use, D2 I think. Try to speak to someone in the councils planning department, to see what your chances would be, before you do anything.

Even if you get PP, (and that is a long hard road in itself !!) may i suggest that going to SO much trouble for just one use of a building (wedding receptions) may not be very profitable throughout the whole year. This is a Very competitive market, and maybe you need to look at other uses as well - conferences ? restaurant ?

Have you researched the need for wedding venues in your area ? Do you know that you can obtain a license to offer weddings ? (i seem to recall one is necessary, but, i may be wrong here.)
  • Thanks for your replys. I hadnt planned to have actual ceremonies there, just the reception afterwards. I had thought about conferences and partys too as the wedding season is generally only may to september. There are quite a few large hotels for venues in this area but not really anything smaller and potentially more resonably priced(but still fairly profitable).I will certainly look into further before "diving in". Thanks again
