help!! housing benefit payment not in my bank!

My housing benefit should've been paid in to my account on Friday, I didn't worry as its happened a couple of times before and I was told my official payment day is Monday but its not there today either!!
My rents leaving my bank on Wednesday and I'm £350 short! Obviously I'm going to contact the council tomorrow and find out why its not there but what are my chances of getting the money so my rent can go?

TBH I'm not sure what the chances are of your HB being paid in before Wednesday.
The only thing I can suggest is if the money isn't there by tomorrow, cancel your standing order for the rent, when your landlord contacts you blame the bank then send the money as soon as it's been paid to you

There is no way we can tell you either way , it will depend why you haven't received your payment and when your LA has its payment runs.
The best thing to do is just contact them in the morning to query and contact your landlord to explain the situation. If your straight with them i'm sure they will understand and appreciate it in the long run.:j0 -
I called last Wednesday as they've requested extra payslips and a tax credit letter that i havent received and the person i spoke to said everything was fine so it hasnt been stopped or anything?
Im not on income support or jobseekers but is there any possibility id qualify for a crisis loan just so i can keep my rent dd an not have to muck things about further?0 -
if you arent on jsa or i/s then i doubt it.I suggest you contact your LL tomorrow as well as the council and put him in the picture0

Hi
Mine has been late on occasion, not sure why but it always turns up in the end.
Unfortunatly I dont think you could get a crisis loan as they do not pay rent on crisis loans as they are to prevent immidiate harm danger and ill health ( or something along those lines, cant think of exact wording right now ) and rent does not come under that category, although people not recieving benefit can apply for a crisis loan for things like food and stuff but I dont know anyone who has ever tried so not sure what the chances of getting it are.
Does your landlord know your get help with your rent? Do you have to pay any of it out of your own pocket? Perhaps you could give them whatever you have to pay yourself and if you can afford some extra on top then do so as that will show you are not messing them around, and then just explain what has happened, being honest is best I think.
If your landlord does not know you get benefit then maybe do as above and tell then you will pay the deficit assap but your wages are late?
Hope it works out for you !0 -

When i've had this before they have suspended the claim until the information is provided to them.0 -
It takes 5 days to clear, thats what i was told. I got a letter saying the date i'd be paid, it didin't go in, i went to complain and they told me thats the day they start making the payment but it would be 5 days before i got the money. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. That is truly bad advice and only contributes to the ever growing number of LLs who won't accept benefits.
People need to remember that quite often, the rent is going to pay the mortgage on a property and just because someone's a LL it doesn't follow that they're swimming in money.
The best policy is to be upfront and tell the LL what the problem is, pay what you have and come to an arrangement to pay the remainder when it comes in.
I'd also say that tenants have a moral duty to tell LLs when you're claiming benefits to pay the rent - by not doing so you could well be invalidating the LL's insurance on the property.“Don't do it! Stay away from your potential. You'll mess it up, it's potential, leave it. Anyway, it's like your bank balance - you always have a lot less than you think.”

Hi there
I would just check with your LA that your claim has not been suspended. In my LA, payment runs are automatic. We do them twice a week for various types of payment (2 weeks in arrears, week in advance / arrears etc). It would suggest to me that if your claim has not been paid, this is because your claim has been suspended as I can't think of another reason why it wouldn't be paid
Hope you get it sortedI currently manage a Housing Benefit service and have been working in Housing / council tax benefit (as was) since 2001.
