Tommy's - the baby charity

Options
Hi all,

Our little boy sadly passed away 3 weeks ago, instead of flowers at his funeral, we asked for donations to Tommy's charity via his justgiving website (which is the justgiving website then /billyjohnhaydock - it wont let me put the link on here!)

I am now thinking about organising a charity night with auction to raise even more money for such a reat cause ... just wondering if anyone knows how we could get free room hire for the event at a nice hotel (we live in the manchester area so manchester or cheshire would be a bonus!) and any ways we can keep cost down to maximise the amount we raise?

Thanks very much xxx

  • Just phone around some and explain your plight and your plan and see what they say, no harm in asking!
When dealing with the CSA its important to note that it is commonly accepted as unfit for purpose, and by default this also means the staff are unfit for purpose.

  • Thanks for that!

I just dont know where to start! I know its going to be stressful but it'll hopefully be worth it!
  • or does anyone know of any businesses that would be willing to lend their support or give things to auction off?
  • Times are tough for businesses just now.

Put together an email to send to business, or a letter or start maiking phone calls.

Many years ago I ran a charity auction for a charity and found that there are a few things it's best to accept from day one
    (a) Some people will let you down
    (b) people will surprise you with their generosity
    (c) you will spend half your life on the phone and the other half writing - asking people for things you need
    (d) it will all be worth while in the end!

With halls, we simply phoned any place we thought remotely suitable and asked for their absolute cheapest price and explained who we were supporting. Eventually someone said that they also supported that charity and they gave us the hall for free. Sometimes people can't afford free - but cheapest might get you a good deal.
To those who are given much, much is expected
