Item said UK only - but winning bid in Spain

Hello all,

An auction just finished on a coat I had on Ebay, and I had the auction set as "will post to United Kingdom only". However the winning bidder is in Spain. I suppose it's not a huge amount of trouble to send it airmail as I had to go to the PO with it anyway...but even so I wish they'd emailed me first, they appear to be an experienced ebayer.

Obviously the postage to Spain will be a lot more than the 1st Class UK postage that was on the listing. Shall I just send them the invoice with the new higher postage? Or should I email them to see if they are ok with the higher postage?

thanks all

Send them the new invoice - they chose to bid without checking the extra postage with you so they'll have to comply with anything reasonable you suggest. Bear in mind that you won't be covered by Paypal in case of chargeback problems unless you use a trackable method of posting; I've found ordinary Airmail to be extremely unreliable in the past. You can work out the costs on the Royal Mail website.

Thanks - so I'm within my rights to choose a trackable method of posting even if it costs them a lot more? (the coat finished at 99p so the postage is going to end up being many times more than that!)

What trackable service do you recommend, I'm looking at the Royal Mail website but I'm not experienced in sending things abroad. International Signed For?

Normally I'd say the buyer agrees the postage costs set before, but given that they bid from a non-approved country without prior discussion, you get to call the shots. I no longer use Paypal so I'm not sure what they deem acceptable, but I'd've thought provided you can confirm a tracking number, you should be okay. Someone with more experience than me will no doubt confirm what's what.

    Thanks wigginsmum.

I'd be very grateful if someone could confirm that a trackable service such as International Signed For is ok to use, as I can't seem to find the info on the Paypal site, and I want to make sure I've got it right before I cost how much postage is going to be.

Ok Paypal seems to thing as long as something can be tracked, they accept it. From the website:"

What are some best practices for avoiding chargeback losses?

Follow the Seller Protection Policy guidelines by delivering to the buyer's address listed on the Transaction Details page and by retaining proof of postage that can be tracked online."

When the buyer finds out the postage is going to be say £7, you'll probably find they won't complete.

Send that new invoice to them asap.
It's BOUGHT (to Buy), not BROUGHT (to bring) AND you cannot be frauded, only DEfrauded.

This is what paypal say about tracking methods. However for a 99p item I wouldn't track it as a COP even to an overseas address covers you up to £32.

    Thanks

The postage will be at almost a tenner if I get it tracked I reckon, the coat is wool and rather heavy.

I've invoiced and will see what they say.

If they don't want to complete, what to do? I've never had this kind of problem before.

If they don't go through with it, then file a NPB and get your fees back.

For future reference, if you don't want any other bids except UK bids you can block them through your preferences.

Thanks - how long do I need to wait before filing a NPB? I've heard nothing from them since sending the email yesterday AM.

You can start the NPB exactly a week after auction ended.
