I have a Router but no wires ....

Hello,

I moved into a new house awhile ago and it already has Virgin media installed but not wireless. I have a Router which my Mum brought over yesterday but she didnt bring the wires to go with it - god only knows why not!

Can I buy some more as they live too far away to come over again soon? and if so which will I need - I think there will be an AC adaptor involved looking at the box but not sure what else...........

Cable or ADSL?

Assuming cable you need a cable modem and a wireless router.
Each has their own mains adapter, you will also need a couple of ethernet cables, modem to router and router to PC to get started.
If you have an account with virgin then the modem should be recognised by the system.

Why not get mum to pop the offending items into a jiffy bag and put them in the post.

BTW If you want TV as well as tne you'll need a splitter for the cable and a set top box.

lol my Mum had enough trouble finding the router ....... she eventually photographed it and sent it to me where I verified that yes it was a router. I havent a clue whats happened to the wires as she disconnected them when she changed providers and they wouldnt allow wireless to be connected or something .........

The latest ones are a different shape and a Virgin logo, but have the same ports.

This is a wireless router



Back view only I'm afraid, its usually a Netgear one like this they supply.

I certainly hope so .......... it used to be connected up as a router in my parents house and I bought it as a router!! It wasnt supplied by Virgin, I bought it from PC World.

Did your parents have cable internet via Virgin? If not, it's useless.

Most supermarkets sell the leads, but you will still need a power adapter.

No - on the TV

You could get a new adaptor but I doubt it will be cheap

Ethernet cables can be quite cheap try ebuyer.com

I can't remember now who the provider for my parents internet was.... AOL possibly ...

will the router not connect into any broadband internet?

yes, in my new house I have a cable modem.... that is I can connect to the internet via a box in the lounge, it uses a ethernet wire.

AOL is ADSL (bt line), so it's no good for Virgin Cable, you need a cable/dsl wireless router.
