Programme Function Keys

Hi Techie's.

Is it possible to re-programme the 'F Keys'?

I would like to be able to programme an 'F' key, so that while in Microsoft Outlook, I can change font type, at the press of a key, rather than stopping, going through the change font format.

Or, If it's not possible to change the font while doing this, maybe programme something in ie. a smiley in windings.

You could try asking here: http://www.outlookcode.com/d/vb.htm if nobody has any better sugestions, they have their own forums.

It could have been worse. At least source code's not combustible, or you can bet somebody at McAfee would have lit it.

Have a look at the Best Free Hotkey Utility here

This should let you program other keys as well (e.g. numerical keypad) not just F keys.

I'm using their previous recommendation Hotkeycontrol XP from

    http://www.digital-miner.com/

I've set up hotkeys in Word with it to do instant italics, etc
  • Instant Italics? :S I must have the wrong end of the stick, cos pressing Ctrl-I has always turned on Italics in word.

Here's the most useful keys in word: Hold Ctrl and press a direction arrow to jump over words. Press Shift and a direction arrow to highlight letters as you move along. Hold Ctrl and Shift and a direction arrow to highlight words (and move along much quicker).
Press Alt - Tab to flick to the next open program. Hold Alt-Tab and keep pressing Tab to flick through your programs. Gone one too far? Hold shift and then press tab again (it'll run backwards).
Ever wondered what those little lines are under tons of letters? Press or Hold Alt and press one of those letters. They're in the menus too in most programs, e.g. Paste Specal is Alt, E, S, and Change Case is Alt, O, E,. Anything that I commonly pick out of the menus I just memorize the sequence, makes it so much faster!
Here's loads of info about Keyboard Combinations etc:

Sorry didnt explain it properly. I know Ctrl-I turns on italics, but at work I often have to edit documents and insert italics over single characters already typed by someone else. I set up Hotkeycontrol XP to insert italics over the next single character with one key stroke. Also set up superscript and subscript also with single keystrokes as these are the things I most need.

When you have a lot of editing to do it saves time just pressing one key rather than various key combinations.
