How to get a door handle installed in a door

Options
You know the 'cheapy' doors from the DIY shops for say £14 without handles. would it be more cost effective to buy these and get the door handle installed or to buy a door with a handle?

Cost effective way is to buy the cheapy door and fit the handle yourself, it's a fairly easy DIY job.

    thanks guys,

sorry walbash i know it wasnt as plain as i was asking lol

i guess what i should of said was how easy is it to fit a handle into a door. my dad said its a bit fiddly my DH wouldnt attempt it so unless its 'really' easy i am not sure if it would be more cost effective to get someone in to fit it or buy a door with a handle.

If you have the skil to hang a door, you should have no problem putting the handle on.

It is 'fiddly', but it's not really difficult if you have a basic set of tools.

Can I just remind you when fitting these cheap doors the lock/handles can only be fitted to one side, as the other is hollow, its usually marked on the top or which every way round you are looking at it.
Look after the Pennies and the Pounds will take care of themselves.

Macman has hit the nail on the head - it's a bit of a fiddle, and can be time-consuming for a novice, but not difficult at all. There are plenty of "how-to" guides around, here's just one example :

Like anything with DIY, and especially woodwork, take your time, don't try and rush, and there's no reason why you can't make a very good job of it. And remember the old adage - "measure twice, cut once" !!
