Just exchanged!

I exchanged on the sale of my house yesterday, and although I've not posted before on this matter (for fear of cursing the sale) I have been reading the advice/others experience on here and it has been a huge, huge help.

I'm currently working in Australia and have been here for 8 weeks and it has been a nightmare trying to sell my house and remain in contact with all the various parties. Parcel Force losing the contract didn't help, but that is another rant for another day.

I'm back next week and can then tie up the purchase of my new place, which is progressing fairly well (back to living with my parents for a few weeks  in the meantime). I owned the house with my ex-girlfriend, and although it was the most amicable split in the world, it is a nice feeling to finally be able to move on 6 months down the line as we were both still living there when I wasn't working abroad.

The house sold for £225k, which is an increase of £70k over 4 years. That works out as an increase of nearly £1.5k a month, which is double what we were paying on the mortgage. It's a nice way to look at it, although it's all relative.

A few words of advice:

* Don't try and sell a house from 10,000 miles away!

* Get a good solicitor, not necessarily the cheapest. Mine was absolutely superb and I couldn't have done it without them.

* Don't use Parcel Force to send important documents

I've seen it, it's the future
