Returns under the hygiene rules and What qualifies?

Options
I am unclear of what rights still stand when a retailer states hygeien reasons. I am looking to puchase a pair of expensive headphones and wanted to try them on but the retailer said due to hygiene reasons I could not and that I would not be able to return them. Where do I stand if the item is not comfortable to wear and can they class over the ear headphones under these restrictions?

Comments

  • If you have an ear infection and try them on then the infection could easily be passed to the next person who tried them on. therefore it is definately a hygeine problem.

I would have thought standard headphones could be returned OK under the DSR, in fact I did just that with a pair of Sennheisers I purchased a couple of years ago. In ear headphones though would be a no-no.

Exactly what headphones are we talking about and who is the retailer?
  • Its a pair of denon over ear headphones and I was looking to get them from Richer Sounds. But I might aswell buy them online if thats their attitude.

Out of interest would you be happy if Richer Sounds told you at the till that your earphones had been tried on countless times by someone with hygiene problems or worse a contagious disease?

I also think under DSR they would be counted as barred.

Any decent Hi-Fi shop worth their salt would let you demo a pair before buying.

And large prices. Thy may have demo pairs of normal headphone not in ear ones too much chance of spreading nastyness

There's not a lot you can do I'am Afraid, all shops will be the same.
