Are NTL part of BT?

This may seem a silly question but are NTL and BT related in anyway. I ask as NTL numbers have been changed to 0845 numbers which will cost no more then 'x' from a BT land line. But surely people phoning NTL will have NTL phone lines not BT lines.
I've had to call several times in the last week about problem with interent connection and am paying twice. Once on the 0845 number to be spoken to for a few minutes by machine and then told to redial and 0871 number, which gives a long message before i can get to talk to anyone. today as someone answered, after several minutes of poor music, i was cut off. when i got through i ask them to call back if i was cut off, to be told they can only take in-coming calls.

Hi,
NTL is one of BTs main competitors!
NTL and Telewest recently merged, then further mergeing with Virgin Mobile, to provide a huge level of competition against the likes of BT etc.
Cheers

See here and here.
I know it's odd, being as it's an NTL number, but that's the way that companies are being encouraged to promote their number.0 -
NTL definately not part of BT. To be honest still shocked that NTL are still going. With the set up costs that cable operators have to do to get new customers cannot ever see how they can complete with the likes of SKY0

i was ONCE a NTL customer until they charged me twice for the tv and phone for 3 months in a row, they are that thick at customer services they could not see what they had done.
it was only when i gave them 1 months notice they could see the mistake, but it was 2 late sky was being installed, BT was reconnected, life it great with out NTL, as i dont have 1hr spare regular to ring them and be on hold...0
