Roughly how much to fix a leaky tap

My husband could probably do it if he hadn't just had an operation on his hand, rendering him less than useless, and my arthritis is appalling at the moment, so I'm even less useless than him.
However, the mono tap in our kitchen has started dripping really badly. It's losing about one and a half pints of water every hour, so we need to get it fixed asap.
Any idea roughly how much we should expect to pay a plumber to come and fix it for us?

If it is a straightforward tap, anyone with a little DIY knowledge and confidence would do it for you - is there a family friend who could take a look? If its simply the washer, they cost pence to buy and 5 minutes to fit.
Is it the hot side or the cold side that's leaking - the hot can be a little problematical to shut off as the isolation valves rarely get touched and have a tendency to seize - one experience I learnt from!0
