    Oh dear there's been this huge mix up and now I am being asked to pay for this stuff I didnt order and gave to you guys - perhaps you would like to chip in since we dont know who its for but you benefited from it

    Appeal to their better nature and if that doesnt work then no xmas pressies (since they dont ruddy deserve them then ;))

    Bun you just say to SIL, you know that order you placed with my manager and you told her not to tell me...well those were the items that turned up at MIL and you shared. So she wants the money for the order £40 as she is out of pocket. In fact why don't you just forward the email and put

    FYI I believe this is the order you placed with my manager that you didn't want me to know about. Please can you forward payment

    SIL ordered them AGAIN as she didnt get the first order (as they were sitting gathering dust in my flipping hallway) so she would think she's had to pay twice.
