first time moving out.... any advice?

hi my names Steve, me and my partner are moving out for the first time, into hopefully a 1 bed flat or studio apartment, we've seen places up for rent including bills (water, some even include council tax) but outside of the rent money how much money do we need for food, and other things like phone lines etc an information or lists of what is needed and general costs of things would be much appreciated, as at the moment im just really looking for cost info to help us :)

thanks in advance
steve

    Welcome to MSE! :D

This has been asked loads of times, if you run a search you will get a good spread of answers. I would point out tho that council tax is the legal responsibility of the occupant to register for and pay; if the landlord did not pay you as tenant would be liable whatever the tenancy agreement said. I'd also be questioning why the landlord was going to pay the council tax - is it because he wants to remain named on the bill and has not sought permission to let from his lender? Always ask about consent to let.

  • ok thanks, will bear that in mind :D so prices wise what would be a reasonable sum to live on per month after rent has been taken? probably a common question, i found a thread but that was based on a single person living alone, so costs would vary a fair bit for 2 i reckon

    Don't feed the trolls! ;)

Seriously 99shill run a search, the answer honestly is a totally dependent on your area and your lifestyle, and you only really get the full picture on that by reading earlier thread with a wide range of responses.
