Golf GT TDI Glow Plug Lamp

Can anyone give me any advice on what it might mean if the Glow Plug Lamp is flashing on my dashboard. I know it is something to do with Engine Management, but that's where my knowledge ends.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Sorry, just looked in my Passat TDI manual and all it says is Glow Plug Flashing - Engine Management Fault - Take to qualified dealer (who will attempt to extort vast sums of money from you).

    Hope somebody else can help.

Or better still, read this thread, and do what was suggested, and save the cost of being ripped off by the dealer:

Join one of the many VW owners forums, you'll quickly find an enthusiast locally with the VAG software capable of reading the stored fault codes for you, often for the price of a pint!. It may not cure the problem but at least you'll know what it is.

Usually the main culprits of these fault codes are the engine sensors, the MAF sensor being favourite on a lot of diesels and VW are renowned for them. Having owned a Caddy Van TDI, i'm now on my 2nd MAF and its still under 30k miles!

Not a cheap part (£250 + VAT fitted from the $tealer) you can find the German manufacturerd Pierburg replacement on Ebay complete with torx removal tool for about £46 and its very easy to replace yourself. That is assuming that it is the MAF!

However find an owners forum, get chatty with somebody with the Diagnosis software local to you, and at least you'll know what it is and save a fortune on the diagnosis. Most $tealers will charge you £50+ just for plugging it in!.
