Can I still get my 'frequent flyer miles' through Expedia?

Hi Guys,

I was going to book a flight with Emirates Airlines though their website, but found the same flight (same airline) cheaper on Expedia (it is an 'Expedia Special fare').

But if I book through Expedia, can I still claim my frequent flyer miles? (Skyward Miles)

Does anyone have experience of receiving 'frequent flyer miles' when booking through Expedia, in particular with Emirates Airlines?

Any info would be great! Thanks!

double check the fare class that expedia are offering the ticket in, and make sure you still earn miles in that fare class... I'm not FF on Emirates, but I do know that certain fare classes earn 1/2 or 1/4 miles on certain airlines (KLM/Air France spring to mind!)

Some consolidator fares earn none at all with some airlines too.
Others you get full miles-most of my Delta miles this year have come from booking with ebookers

Emirates currently give full Skywards miles on all fares, although this is changing from January 1st 2010. Booking through their own website gives you 10% bonus miles which you won't get booking through Expedia.

I suggest you note carefully all the details of the flights offered on Expedia, then call Emirates and ask them. Their main booking number might have people who could match the price, while Skywards (a separate number) could tell you whether you would earn miles on the flights in question.

Personally, whenever I have found a good deal on Expedia I have found that the precise flights (dates and times) actually cost the same or less on the airline's own website.
  • Thanks guys for the Info!

I have phoned Emirates/Skywards, and they have confirmed that I can claim miles though Expedia, but would not get the 20% extra miles when booking direct through Emirates website.

They have also told me that the particular flight on Expedia (which is an Expedia Special Fare) is 'restricted', meaning non-transferable or refundable. How important is this? (If I dont plan on cancelling/extending).

Depends how good your travel insurance is if something unexpected happened and how much the saving is actually 'worth' saving.
