Wrong meter?

Right, this is a bit of a hooha here so bear with me. I had the same issue with my electricity meter, which was resolved after a year (!!), but the situation has only just come to light with my gas meter.
The situation is:
I recently had my gas meter safety inspection, but continued to receive letters from npower saying that I hadn't had the inspection and if I continued to ignore them they would get a court order to enter my property to do the inspection.
After multiple phone calls to npower and lowri beck (the inspection people) it has come to light that the meter that npower have on record for my address is not actually the meter that is in the property. Now, unfortunately this is a rented property that I have been in for the past 18 months, so I am unaware of the previous history regarding the meters.
They have apparently referred the situation to their back of house team to resolve but still no resolution.
I'm worried that if they do get a warrant to enter the property to inspect the meter (which, as I said earlier has already been inspected) I will be liable for any costs incurred etc.
Where do I stand on this?
From my viewpoint they should be liable for all costs as I have already let someone in to inspect the meter who did the safety inspection, listed the meter no. etc, and even returned to double check the meter no. as it didnt tie in with the one on the system.
I'm really pulling my hair out with this because, as I have already said, I had the same issue with my electricity meter (scottish power).
Ranting over. Just needed to get it off my chest!

what they have to do is to send one of the metering asset management engineers out to do a trace and label to verify meter details so they can amend their records, then of course find out in house why different - which could be several reasonsI am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.0

If this is the case then why has noone I've spoken to so far told me this?
And why are they still sending me letters about a stupid safety inspection I've already had done!
After about a year of to-ing and fro-ing with scottish power over the electricity meter it was all resolved over a 20 minute phone call with someone who actually knew what they were talking about.
Apparently there isn't such a person working at npower. Not that I've managed to speak to yet anyway.0 -
You have been sent a letter, have you tried writing back? If you telephone it's common to get a customer service advisor who doesn't know or care about complex situations - try writing to the complaints department.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0

The problem is that because the serial num, bers dont match the inspectiion will not have been recorded against the meter, the IT system will therefoire keep spitting out letters saying it has not been inspected. Your best bet is to write to the comaplints department and include your MPRN (off your bill) the serial number of the meter physically on the wall and the serial number on your bill (which I suspect will be different). If the latter is true then you should have identified this when you checked your first bill.
There are two golden rules when you get a gas or elec bill, check for estimated readings and phone an actual reading through and check the meter serial number in case they have recorded the wrong meter or missed a meter exchange. If we all did this with every bill we help ourselves, the supplier and the meter maintainer.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

I have never checked the serial number on the bill. Usually I check that the meter readings match up. If the meter readings match up then surely you would expect the serial numbers to match?
I will fire off a letter to them anyway. Getting really annoyed with this now!0
