I used to live in one city but worked in another and each day it cost me £5 to get to work (bearing in mind this was 20 years ago and I wasn't earning alot)
Very often when I couldn't afford the train fare I used to pull sickies....hated doing it but had to do it unfortunately.2014 Target;

You probaly wouldn't get away this these days with emphasis on reducing sickness absence rates- most employers would refer you to occupational health, ultimately discipline and sack.20 years ago ....Very often when I couldn't afford the train fare I used to pull sickies....hated doing it but had to do it unfortunately.0 -
but as I said it wasn't something I was particularly proud of doing but the alternative was a grilling from the manager when I went overdrawn (worked for a bank at the time and couldn't go overdrawn without my line manager being informed)2014 Target;

Hey Miffi
Did you do your 'to do' list? If you have got the day off then make sure it is a productive one and then you will have a spring in your step when you go to work tomorrow!
Good luck!

They only call in occupational health when it is a really extreme case - i.e. the person is off long term. And it is very vey difficult to sack someone - it doesn't happen over night (well if the procedures are followed!) Mountainofdebt may only have taken the odd day here and there.
Would I take a sick day if I needed to do something urgently or it was a pressing matter - absolutely.
