Shaving point

Options
Evening All,

We're about to embark on a complete bathroom refurb. There was no shaving point in there before and I would like to add one. Plumber is due to start in 1 weeks time. Will it be a big deal to get a shaving point in? I'm guessing we'll just need to get a electrician in and he can lead the electric from the lights? Will it add much on to the cost do you think? We need the refurb to be quick as it's the only bathroom in the house.

I was thinking of going for a cabinet with a shaving point in, but then in future if I wanted to change the cabinet it would make things more complicated - agreed?

How are those cabinets with lights in rigged up? I quite like the look of those...

All thoughts and ideas welcome.

Thanks!

We have a cabinet with the lights and a shaving point on the side. The electrician cut a channel into the wall and did the fitting for it. I have no idea what the extra cost is because we did ours in the complete house rewiring.

It's nice to have the lights on for the mirror. If we had really thought about it, would have bought one with anti-demister as well.

Thank you misskool. I'm just a little concerned about what would happen if I wanted to change the cabinet... Though hopefully this wouldn't happen for a long while, if at all.

I've read that it's a bigger job adding a shaving point in older houses because it needs to run back to the main fuse box ?? My house is 1930's.

Where did you read that? A shaver point can be run via an FCU off an existing ring main, or as a spur off the lighting circuit (the latter probably being easier in most bathrooms-you spur off the ceiling light)
I think you are getting confused with an electric shower, which requires a dedicated circuit.
Even if your house is 1930's, it's unlikely that the wiring and consumer unit are original after 80 years!
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
