No tone sounding on Alarm System keypad

I have a CK 700L/2 pir home alarm system and can't get the keypad to make a tone when touching the buttons. It also doesn't generate the 30 second long tone sound when entering or leaving the house when the four digit code is activated. I have consulted the manual on-line but with no joy. Is there an engineer out there who might know how to activate the tone to this model.

Are the lights on, on the keypad? I don't think there is a option to turn the tones off (its not that sophisticated) If you've turned the alarm on and come home, don't enter your code and walk into a protected area does the outside sounder activate?
1 No external sound, alarm system faulty
2 the keypad is faulty - replace
3 internal speaker (not in the keypad) faulty - replace

thanks for reply - the buttons don't illuminate behind when pressed. As for the rest of the alarm system, that works fine. Do you know where the internal speaker is located?
