hi there,
decided to look into switching last week, npowers (yes, i know) go fix tarrif came out cheapest for duel fuel, should save about £87 pa plus £30 off moneysupermarket.
anyway, knowing i'm supplied by independant gas transporter pipes, and there is ussually extra charge for this, i called npower before switching to confirm the rate quoted to me by moneysupermarket would be correct and included any extra IGT charges. the lady confirmed the tarrif was correct and included IGT fee's.
so i do the switch and low and behold a few days later i get a letter saying they can't offer me the tarrif quoted, i will have to have the 'go fix IGT' tarrif which is the same kwh rate for the gas but about £45 pa more on the standing charge.

so you can see that this puts paid to a big chunk of the savings, but still worth it financially. i intend to call them back and ask them to honour the origional quote or make a complaint. any body have opinions on chance of success/course of action? i noted the operatives name and time of call.
part of me just wants to halt the switch and go to the next cheapest, but i feel this may cause problems with the £30 switch incentive if it is a limited offer, (moneysupermarket t&c's "payments are restricted to one per household". allredy had the wine off uswitch and vouchers off simplyswitch don't appeal otherwise could maybe use another switcher.

thanks in advance for your opinions.

The comparison sites don't usually include any IGT charge. If you are not asked whether you are supplied by an IGT, that's a pretty good clue.

    nPower charge £31.50 for IGT.
Only BG, SSE & Ebico make no additional charges for IGT.
EDF doesn't charge its dual fuel customers any additional charge for an IGT.

It is unfortunate that the person you spoke to at nPower have you misleading information, however this has now been corrected in the written correspondence you have received.

If you wish to cancel, and you are still within the cooling off period of 14 days, then do so.

However, if you would have saved £87 per year over the next best available supplier, surely it is best to stay with them and save the £55.50 per year.
Don't forget, if the next best supplier isn't one of those mentioned that doesn't charge extra, then you need to add the applicable amount to the quoted cost meaning you would be saving even more by staying with nPower.

    thanks premier for the reply,

i did strongly suspect that comparison sites don't include IGT excess, however IGT customers could be identified by post code which comparison sites ask for. i wanted confirmation, money is important to me :D

£31.50 may be their usuall IGT excess
but its gofix standing charge is £18.90 times 4
its gofix IGT standing charge is £29.30 times 4
    so an extra £41.60 pa

the stated saving was over my current supplier not next cheapest so there is the possibility of choosing another provider, however as i said i don't want to mess up the £30 switching bonus which i know shouldn't happen....but nothings ever simple is it. all of the next best quotes on comparison site charge the extra for IGT.

it just gets on my nerves that a supposedly trained member of staff (well two actually) can't answer a simple question. they had me switching under false pretences.

just checked ebico no savings to be made there.
sse offers no switching bonus as allready with atlantic.
    bg are nowhere near.
